In the Bag

I’ve been involved in kink in one way or another for 25 years, and over that time, I’ve collected a lot of implements, as well as other types of toys. But this post is really more about implements.

When I go out to play, or when someone comes over to play, I have a blue bag with implements in it, and I tend to use the same ones in every scene: floggers, paddles, canes, crops, hairbrush, bathbrush, wooden spoon, wooden spanking stick, and sometimes a pair of dog-grooming gloves (never used on a dog) with rubber spikes that add a fun sensation element to a hand spanking. Sometimes, though, I don’t use any implements — sometimes I don’t need to, sometimes I don’t want to, and sometimes the person is a little new to BDSM and isn’t ready for them.

Under my bed, I have a ton more implements — huge paddles, baseball bats (never used but hope springs eternal), a rubber hose-like thing from a muscle training set, a pencil-lead-thin metal stinger, and a bunch of other stuff that I haven’t touched in ages. In fact, until I pulled out the cricket bat a couple of weeks ago, that was in there too, unused.

I sometimes see people just take implement after implement out of their play bag, use it for a minute or two, and then set it aside. I used to do that, back when I brought the entire big red bag out with me (it’s 36 inches long and at least 18 inches wide and deep when expanded), but these days I only really need the blue bag. And even then I find that I don’t need all the implements in it.

In the past 30 days, I’ve done two scenes where I only used my hand. Both times I left marks. Both times the bottom was extremely satisfied. And I have another play partner who loves my hand spankings so much that sometimes she reaches orgasm, which, let me tell you, is extremely awesome. I don’t need the stuff in the bag to have a good time.

Which isn’t to say that I don’t like to use it all, because I do, but I feel like sometimes I have too many implements.

And that list doesn’t even include the non-impact toys — clothespins, restraints, vibrators, plugs, blindfolds, lube, strap-ons, clamps… all the things I don’t usually bring with me to the dungeon or to parties because I don’t really need them.

Sometimes I want to get one of those big suitcases and get it converted into something that has little storage areas for all of my toys. Other times I just want to use my hand and maybe one or two implements. It just depends on the day.

Occasionally I’ll go through my bag and swap implements in or out. Lately it’s been mostly out as I realize “hey, I haven’t used this paddle in six months,” though rarely I will find something I’d forgotten about in the big red bag and move it over to the blue bag. Then I’ll use it, realize there’s a reason I didn’t have it in the blue bag in the first place, and it’ll just sit there until the next time I go through my implements.

Spoiled for choice, I suppose.
