Two days down, two days to go. At this point we were all pretty tired already — running a spanking party takes a lot out of a person — but we had a big day ahead.
Saturday is generally the day that most spanking parties will do their vendor fair (Oasis being the notable exception; they do theirs on Friday night). It takes a lot of work to do a vendor fair just right, and thankfully NotSoKnotty was up to the challenge. Not only did she run her own booth, but she ran the entire event.
We started at 10:00 with registration for vendors. We had so many — more than we thought we would. A lot of the vendors were also party attendees, but I would say half or so were not; they were just there to vend. My task was to get my area set up (only takes about half an hour) and create all the boxes for the silent raffle (which, I later found out, is not allowed to be called a “raffle” in Georgia; some weird law someone told me about). Fortunately I spent some time earlier in the month building the boxes, which took about a minute per to fold from flat to 3D. We had around 40 prizes, some provided by others and some provided by the team. I put three books and a spanking implement into the mix. As I mentioned in my GASP recap, the advantage here was that people had to pay for their items before they bid on them, whereas with a silent auction sometimes they don’t bother.
In addition to those duties, I also helped set up the DJ area and the spanking games and booth. The late Mike Stein was gracious enough to run our spanking booth for us. We learned a few valuable lessons about spanking booths, like needing a sign and better publicity, and also being a little more discerning in who volunteers. Instead of just taking any volunteer, what we need to do in the future is have some sort of form where people sign up for a time and then we make the decision as to who does what. I’m pretty sure the spanking booth at TASSP made more in an hour than we made in four, so they probably have a better idea of how to do it. Things to take with us, I suppose.
The vendor fair was very well-attended, especially since we opened it up to the public for free. We also sold tickets to the rest of GASP for anyone who wanted to stay, up to a certain point when I decided we’d hit our limit. I found out later we could’ve sold more, but better safe than sorry, especially when there’s catering involved. And speaking of catering, we also learned that the vendor fair needs to end about an hour earlier because the banquet staff has to turn the room for our dinner and that takes time. Next year our vendor fair will run from 11-3 instead of 12-4; not a big problem.
Once the fair was over, I spent some time helping the vendors get their stuff back to their vehicles, and then went up to my room for a brief break before changing into my costume for the dinner. Our Saturday dinner was much better attended than the Friday one, especially since regular attendees to spanking parties know there will be dancing. The food was overall quite good (though the pie probably needed to be defrosted a little more — I like cold fruit pie but not everyone does) and a lot of people had fun.
And, speaking of fun, go back and read my GASP recap for information on what I did that evening.. I don’t think I can write it any better than I already did. What I discovered, though, is that when it comes to running spanking parties, Friday and Saturday nights are my time to relax and let other people take charge of things so I can play. And oh how I played…
Two more posts left in this series, I think. Maybe three. We’ll find out.
