One of my lesser-publicized vices is my enjoyment of anime. I’ve been into it since I was 18 or 19 — my first was Macross Plus, followed by Neon Genesis Evangelion. I don’t watch a ton of it anymore, but I do have some shows that I like.

Recently I began a rewatch of One-Punch Man. For those who don’t feel like googling: OPM is about a man named Saitama who wanted to become a hero, so he trained so hard that now he can defeat any enemy with a single punch. He therefore has ennui, as all he wants is a challenge. OPM is one of my favorite anime (animes?) because it doesn’t take itself seriously and hangs lampshades all over superhero anime tropes.

Last night I started thinking about a way to write a story that’s a parody of OPM, “One-Spank Man”. The conceit of the story is that a top loves spanking but he’s so good at it that bottoms can only take one spank before they tap out. Problem is, that’s the whole joke. I think I could figure out a way to do it, but would it be funny? Or would I end up writing it the way I usually do, delving into the characters’ backstories and motivations and making it more serious than I intended? I really don’t know.
