Stuff Your Dungeon Needs, Part 2 (10/10): Multiple-Height Furniture

Read the rest of the series here.

Not everyone is the same height. I have partners who are short and partners who are tall. I’ve had partners who are of average height as well. And not all of them can comfortably use all dungeon furniture. Take my spanking bench, for instance; it was made by someone tall, so it’s optimized for tall people; when short people use it, they need to kneel on a pillow.

At the local dungeon space I go to, the benches are generally the same size. However, at other dungeons the benches might be taller or shorter. Most benches that are the stairstep type (like the one above) are not adjustable, height-wise. However, some other types of benches are adjustable. For GASP 2025 we had two benches commissioned that are the sawhorse type, and the arm- and leg-rests are adjustable to better support different heights; I’ve seen them used with people who are six feet tall, and people who are closer to five feet. It just takes a couple of minutes to adjust the height.

Massage tables are easier to adjust; most of them have legs where the height can be changed. Usually when you’re on a massage table you’re laying flat on it, so it doesn’t really matter for you as the bottom, but for the top if the furniture is too low it can cause back issues.

Adjustable spanking benches are a little more expensive, but they can be worth it to people of differing heights for their comfort and for the comfort of the tops. At a different local dungeon space, there’s one spanking bench that’s actually too low for me, even though it fits Partner 1 just fine, so I have to adjust my swing, and when I’m using my hand or a wooden implement I often have to bend over, which is uncomfortable for me. And the whole point of me being a spanking top is to make the other person uncomfortable… in the best way.
