I don’t really mind

One of my friends linked me to the Anthropic settlement so I could see if any of my works were affected. They were not, but it was nice of him to do so. I guess Anthropic didn’t care enough about my writing to include it.

I do, however, know for sure that some of my books have been pirated — both JJ Rose books and under my other pen names. And y’know what? I don’t really mind.

Now, I’m not saying you should go out and pirate my books. Far from it. I would much rather you bought them from Amazon. After all, I’ll never hit it big as an author if everyone just pirates my stuff. But if that’s the only way you can get the books (maybe you share a Kindle account with a parent; maybe you can’t afford my books right now but really want to read them), then you might as well do it. At least then you’ll be reading them.

However, in exchange for you pirating my books, I would really like it if you reviewed them on Goodreads. (Amazon generally doesn’t approve of reviews if you didn’t actually purchase the item from them.) I publish not to make money (although some more money coming in would certainly be nice) but to give people enjoyable stories to read. As JJ Rose, I want you to have a good time and get turned on. Under my genre fiction pen names, I want you to feel fulfilled by reading my books — because even stories or books with “bad” endings can still be fulfilling, even if they aren’t “enjoyable”. If you experience those feelings, even if you had to pirate my books to do it, the least you could do is tell me about it. I promise not to report you to the authorities.
