My next book isn’t erotica

About 13 years ago, I had this idea for a novel. I wrote the first chapter, and the entire outline, and then it sat on a shelf for over a decade while I thought about what to do with it. I thought it was a great idea, and I personally haven’t read anything like it before (though I haven’t read all the books in the universe by far). It has a few good twists, some straightforward fights, and a nice sequel hook at the end.

It’s not erotica. Yes, I was writing erotica back in 2013, but I was focusing more on my genre fiction. This book is most definitely genre fiction. It has some sex in it, yes, but not explicit sex, and if I were to remove the sex the story would be just as successful (a sure sign that it’s not erotica).

I finally finished the first draft of it. It’s 139,000 words, separated into 45 chapters. I still have a long, long way to go — I have to do multiple rounds of edits and find at least one beta reader — but just getting a first draft done is a huge step.

And although it’s not a humorous book in any way, this comic might give you an idea of what it’s about:

I also have to come up with a title, because, unlike with Butt Stuff, the working title of this one definitely doesn’t reflect the seriousness (or horror) of the material.

Guess I know what I’ll be doing after work for the next couple of months…
