In addition to Weekend Plans and Switching Plans, a couple of years ago I wrote a sci-fi interactive novel that has yet to be named. After I finished it, I tried like crazy to get a beta reader but had no luck. I even mapped out all the paths to make it easier for a beta reader to make sure the story worked correctly.
Well, a couple of weeks ago I reread it and I realized that, at least in my opinion, it’s good enough to publish. It won’t be under the JJ Rose name, so the only way you’ll be able to get it is if you know my genre fiction pen name or you pick up a copy at one of my appearances (I believe my next one will be the GASP vendor fair on March 21). But that also means I’ll have to start putting out content on my other blog leading up to it. That’s hard enough to do on this one; I can’t imagine doing two blogs at the same time. (I say that, but back in the early 00s I used to do that all the time; of course, I had a lot more free time at work.)

That’s the first page of the “paths” document I created. The book has about 30 bad endings and maybe three or four good ones, because unlike with my erotica, when I write sci-fi I can make it more dire and dangerous. There are a lot of unpleasant ways to die in space, after all.
Writing interactive novels is a lot of fun, and a good challenge, although it’s difficult to do when I’m just on my phone with my Bluetooth keyboard because I need to keep both my document and my spreadsheet open at the same time. I guess if I’d bought a folding phone instead of a standard one that would have been possible, but I just couldn’t conceive of myself spending that much money on a phone. Plus I’m waiting for Apple to come out with their folding phone, because I’m sure that when they do it they’ll figure out how to do it without that bump in the screen, and once Apple does it everyone else will figure out how as well. So maybe my next phone, in about three years. We’ll see.

I’m going to be home all week. Maybe I’ll write another one. But probably not.
