A Dungeon Review

I recently posted about stuff your dungeon needs, listing off five things that I think are beneficial for any dungeon. A couple of weeks ago I attended a dungeon I’d never been to before about three hours away, and I compared it to my list of stuff. I won’t name the dungeon because I haven’t asked them for permission and I don’t want what I say to affect how you feel about the dungeon should you go there. I actually had a really good time, and I thought the dungeon space was more than adequate.

But I’m talking about the stuff. So here we go:

  1. Tables: This dungeon did not have tables to put stuff on, but it did have some hanging racks where you could hang up your implements. Instead of using those, though, I just used nearby dungeon furniture — the dungeon was not at all crowded that night, and there was plenty of equipment available to be used by all the attendees. A table would’ve been more convenient, but I managed.
  2. Normal Lighting: This dungeon had colored lights, but there were also normal lights throughout, and by keeping them dim, it was possible to see everything I needed to see without too much weird coloring.
  3. An Aftercare Space: This dungeon featured a ton of couches, chairs, and other spaces where one could go to do aftercare. The spaces weren’t necessarily quiet rooms, but they were comfortable and well-lit.
  4. Room to Play: This dungeon had plenty of space the night I was there, although I imagine it could get pretty crowded. Still, the way the equipment was set up seemed to provide plenty of space for even a crowded room of kinksters to play without getting in each other’s way.
  5. Painter’s Tape: This dungeon depends on the integrity of its attendees to not use their phone cameras. Perhaps on a more crowded night they would want to use painter’s tape, but for the night I was there it wasn’t necessary.

As I stated in the original posts, this is just stuff that I think a dungeon should have. If I were to ever have my own dungeon, I would absolutely include all of these things. But I don’t, so I have to content myself with making recommendations. Really they’re just things to think about when creating or renovating a dungeon space, but I think they’re good things to consider.
