I was chilling on the couch recently when my wrist told me I had a new email. The subject line was one of my books under another name, so I opened the email on my phone.
Apparently someone had written a review of my book and emailed it directly to me. Here’s some of what it said:
Wide Ranging Battles with Universal Resonance
Whether it’s facing down monsters, confronting artificial intelligence, or learning to accept past mistakes, each tale offers both high stakes conflict and emotional truth.
Inventive World-Building and Emotional Depth
From futuristic landscapes to magical realms, [the author] crafts worlds that are vivid and immersive, while grounding them in relatable human struggles.
Characters You Care About
These stories aren’t just about action they’re about people. Engineers, magicians, lovers, and dreamers all brought to life with heart, flaws, and courage.
A Blend of Speculative Thrills and Timeless Themes
The anthology doesn’t just entertain; it also reflects on bigger questions of love, sacrifice, and identity, making it relevant in an age of AI, digital consciousness, and evolving social realities.
While I appreciate the kind words, this sort of reads like AI wrote it. The emoji are a big clue — when I write reviews I never put in emoji except maybe an occasional smiley-face (and usually not even that). I mean, there are no em-dashes in the text, and AI loves an em-dash, so maybe it was written by a person? I don’t know.
It is funny that the emailer said my book is relevant in the age of AI, given that I wrote it before the age of AI — it was published in 2019.
Anyway, the point of this whole post is: if you needed reasons to read my books, this review of one of them that hopefully will pique your interest enough to want to check one out.
