I forgot how much I love to write action scenes.
The second day I worked on my GWWA (wrestling spanking) story, I wrote 14,000 words. Clearly I had nothing to do at work that day, and no one was there to supervise me — my entire team of cohorts was working from home or was on-site, and my boss was on a business trip.
Here’s some of what I wrote:
Even Maddy noticed Shannon’s improved mood at the wrestling gym on Monday afternoon. “Did you get laid?”
Shannon blushed hotly – – not because of the sex part, but because of the other part. “I had a date with Jose on Friday night. And I slept over.”
“Look at you!” Maddy nudged Shannon with her elbow.
“Quit it,” Shannon said, but without malice.
Later, in the locker room, Shannon asked Maddy – – in a very quiet voice – – if she and her husband ever did anything kinky.
“What, like getting tied up and tickled?”
“Sure,” Shannon said. “Like that, I guess.”
“I mean, we’ve played around with it, but neither of us are really into it. I did have a boyfriend a few years ago, though, who was really into my feet.”
Shannon knew her expression told Maddy exactly what she thought of that. “Jose’s not into that.”
“I wasn’t either, but he liked it, and I liked him. He used to ask me for footjobs.”
“What?”
“Like handjobs, but with my feet.”
“I don’t even want to think about the logistics for that.”
“It’s not difficult.” Maddy seemed rather blithe about it. “Guys at the club used to want really gross stuff.”
“Did you do it?”
She shook her head. “It was a no-touching establishment, except for private dances, and even then the guys had to keep their hands to themselves. But sometimes they’d tell me their fantasies and…” She shuddered. “Let’s just say that footjobs were the least of it.”
“Ew.” Shannon finished packing up her bag. “But, like, did any of them ever want to spank you or anything? You said you gave some spankings on stage.”
“Just to the other girls. But sure, some of the guys were into that.”
“Have you ever done it?”
“What, spanked someone?”
“Or been spanked. In a sexual way.”
Maddy shook her head. “I don’t think I’d like that.” She blinked. “Why? Do you like that?”
“No, I was just curious.” Shannon knew she said it too quickly, and the look on Maddy’s face told Shannon that her friend was well aware of her new-found kink.
Thankfully, Maddy didn’t say anything about it. She just said, “See you tomorrow,” when they got to their cars. But Shannon knew deep down that at some point Maddy was going to tease her about it. Not in a mean way – – Maddy wasn’t a mean person – – but it was sure to come up again.
That’s from pages 20-21 (in my document, which is 38 pages long). Later in the day, I wrote an action scene — a pro wrestling battle royale — that was 2000 words long. It didn’t quite end up the way I planned it to, but I think the ending I wrote was actually better. I can’t wait for you to read it.
I’m reminded of when I wrote the climactic one-on-one battle scene in my urban fantasy novel (which was written under another name), and when I wrote fan fiction with fights in it (usually in the Buffy fandom). Whenever I’m writing action, I tend to write faster because I’m excited; I’m seeing the story play out in my head, and I’m seeing my characters succeed (or fail). It feels good when I get on a roll like that.
I almost lost my roll this morning, though, when my boss messaged me on Teams to ask me a question and then was not happy with my response. I mean, I’m doing the best I can here on a project that is generally going well but has some precursor parts that we never quite got finished. That’s what he wanted to know about, and I didn’t have the answer he wanted to hear. Maybe if I knew what he wanted I could tell him, but I don’t.
Oh well.
Anyway, here’s another wrestling spanking for you:
