I have a three-bedroom house, and for the first four years I lived in it the third bedroom was a guest room. It had a bed, as well as a desk, a nightstand, and the drying rack for my clothes. I had occasional guests, but usually when someone was staying over they were spending the night with me. My kid used it for sleepovers too.
Late last year, I got rid of the bed — it was taking up too much space and when I wanted to throw a spanking party in my house I had to drag the whole damn thing into my daughter’s room (on its side) before I could put together my spanking bench. (The longer I have this house, the more I realize that my old house, despite having stairs, was a better house for parties. The guest room and master bedroom were both much larger, as was the master bathroom.) I figured that since the bed was more often used for a place to throw clean linens until I bothered to fold them, I could live without it. I sold it and bought a twin-sized bed that folds up, just in case I need it. (It’s been used maybe five times.)
That bed had the same type of mattress my daughter has in her room now, and both beds had a mattress pad. The only real difference is that there’s a TV in the guest room and not one in her room, but since we’re a fully streaming family she can watch everything on her laptop or her computer. Nevertheless, after I got rid of the bed, she got a little indignant.

“Wonderfully comfy” was a bit of an overstatement. I’ve slept on that bed before; it was not “wonderfully comfy”. It was “acceptable”. My bed is wonderfully comfy, despite being 12 years old — I think it’s because of the frame that is a platform with a cage pattern, holding the mattress up instead of letting it sink.
I guess I understand what she’s saying. Her bed is full-sized, which is big enough to be comfortable, and can even manage to sleep two people, but not easily. And the frame on her bed is wood, so if things get a little too… let’s use the word “vigorous”… it might break. That happened to me on my last bed frame with my ex-wife — we were having sex and suddenly there was a loud crack and when I picked up the mattress I found that the center spine of the wooden frame had snapped.
If she asks for a queen bed, I’ll get her a queen bed. But she’s off at college for most of the year, so it’s not really worth it yet. Maybe when she moves home.
