I was recently watching the new season of The Great American Baking Show, and I had to do a double take when I first saw one of the contestants, Chris.

Why, you may ask? Because, other than the baldness, Chris looks pretty much exactly how I imagined Mason in Baker’s Dozen would look.
When I decided to make the cover of February’s Holiday Heat feature Mason, I picked out this guy from a stock photo site:

But then, later in the Holiday Heat series, I had Mason shave his head. Then he really looked like Chris.
My original plan for Mason was to have him go on The Great American Baking Show, or even GBBO itself, but those two shows only allow you on if you’re not a professional baker, and as of February’s Holiday Heat Mason had left his old job, worked at a grocery store bakery for a while, and then started his own bakery-and-cafe. Fortunately, the baking shows on Food Network do allow professionals to compete, so the show Mason goes on is one of those instead.
Here’s one more picture of Chris, just because:

It’s often fun when fiction intersects reality, especially when you’ve created the fiction. Maybe not so much when you’re Margaret Atwood and The Handmaid’s Tale starts coming true in the US, but what can you do?
