Jellybeans

When I was in Austria earlier this year, I brought with me a large bag of Jelly Belly branded jellybeans to snack on. Of course, before I went, I took out all the flavors I don’t like. Seems like most of them were green.

Here are my opinions on some of the JB flavors that I’ve come across in the past decade or so:

  • Bubble Gum: This is a weird one, because it tastes so much like classic gum that you feel weird swallowing it.
  • Buttered Popcorn: I remember when this one was released in… the 80s? the 90s?… and I really liked it. Then I hated it. Now I’m coming around to it again.
  • Cappuccino: Too bitter.
  • Caramel Corn: Not bad. Tastes like caramel corn, kind of.
  • Cotton Candy: Looks too much like bubble gum. I’m not a huge fan anyway.
  • Crushed Pineapple: Is this supposed to taste like canned pineapple, in other words?
  • Dr. Pepper: Gives you the fizzy sensation of Dr. Pepper but not really the taste.
  • Juicy Pear: I don’t like pears to begin with.
  • Kiwi: Very green. Almost too close to sour apple, so I just avoid them.
  • Margarita: Another green one. Tastes close enough to a margarita to pass.
  • Peach: One of my favorite flavors, and easy to tell apart because it’s the only orange one with red spots.
  • Pomegranate: I like this one.
  • Raspberry: Yup, tastes like raspberries.
  • Sizzling Cinnamon: How is it different from regular cinnamon?
  • Sour Cherry: For someone who likes the red flavors as much as I do, I actually don’t care for this one.
  • Sour Lemon: Tastes like cleaning fluid.
  • Sour Orange: Probably the best of the sours.
  • Strawberry Cheesecake: Very mild flavor.
  • Strawberry Daiquiri: My favorite of the strawberry ones.
  • Sunkist Lemon, Lime, and Orange: They taste basically the same as the non-Sunkist varieties.
  • Toasted Marshmallow: Inoffensive.
  • Tutti-Fruitti: I don’t even know what this is supposed to taste like. At least it’s easy to pick out of the bag and discard.
  • Very Cherry: My favorite flavor.
  • Watermelon: Another gross green one.
