I recently started watching Six Feet Under, which I’d never seen before. Each episode is packed full of stuff, so I can usually only manage two at a time. It’s going more slowly than it might with other, more breezy shows.

I just finished episode 5 of season 1, “Open Book”, in which a porn star dies and the Fisher and Sons funeral home is retained for the service. Actor Dina Waters plays the porn star, and Sandra Oh appears as a fellow porn star, which was an amusing surprise. Of course, because it’s an HBO show, they aren’t constrained by broadcast rules, and they can show nudity, so they show the porn star (Viveca St. John is the character’s name) naked in several scenes.

The first thing you notice is that her boobs are… not quite right.

The next question is: are they real fake boobs, or are they real fake boobs?

What I mean is: did the crew make a casting call for women with suboptimal boob jobs? Or did they get the makeup team to create a pair of fake boobs and put them onto the actor’s chest?

I looked at the Six Feet Under wiki page for the episode, and it doesn’t say. But now I’m curious.
