In 2023 I absolutely smashed my record in terms of words written in one year with 483,273. That includes all of the stories in Holiday Heat from March through October, plus the sci-fi novel that I wrote.
Dang. And I probably forgot to include a few things, too — and I have no easy way of telling how many words I wrote on the blog. But I’ll leave it at 483,000 words for 2023, even though it was probably closer to 500,000.
My previous best was somewhere in the 300,000 range, and that was back when I was writing a lot of fanfic. This coming year I don’t think I’ll write more than 200,000, but we’ll have to see. Maybe I’ll do another sci-fi novel, although I have to edit the existing one, plus edit and typeset March through December of Holiday Heat, plus typeset February’s edition, plus create four print books (one for each quarter, collecting the Holiday Heat stories), plus finish the last 75 stories in Holiday Heat. It’s a lot to do on top of my regular day job and all the stuff in my personal life.
It seems really daunting as I write this post. Or maybe that’s just my seasonal affective disorder showing.
Wish me luck.
