X, formerly known as Twitter, has kind of become a joke lately, at least inasmuch as it comes to engagement with my posts. I keep the notifications tab open so I can see who’s been liking and retweeting (re-X-ing?) my posts, and these days it’s bots all the way down. Elon Musk seems to think that bots are the problem; perhaps he should look in the mirror first, though.
I also admit that I’ve been kind of lazy about tweeting; on days when I’m in the office (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays), it’s a rigmarole to post anything — I have to get off the wifi and do it all on my phone, which takes (relatively) forever, and often doesn’t format my posts the way I want them to be formatted. Posting on Threads and Fetlife requires the same process. Once upon a time, WordPress could automatically post to Twitter, but ever since His Muskiness decreed that the API was no longer free a lot of companies (not just WordPress) have dropped support for Twitter cross-posting and interaction.
I’m sure at some point sites will start building with the Threads API (if one even exists; I don’t actually know) and then my blog posts will automatically go there.
I do wish they could automatically go to Fetlife, though.
I guess I need a secretary to do all of this posting for me. Any volunteers? I could pay you in spanks. (Money’s kind of tight these days.)
