Disheartening

As a writer who has most of their books on Kindle Unlimited, it can be quite a bit disheartening to look at my stats and see them not change much over the course of a month. When I wrote this post, I had a total of 589 pages read and two books sold. I was just at a spanking party over Labor Day weekend and I talked about my books a fair bit; one would think that would lead to more sales. But it did not.

I also haven’t gotten a single review on any of my books since last February. Now, thanks to KU stats, I know people have been reading my stuff since then; why isn’t anyone leaving me any reviews? (There aren’t any on Goodreads, either.) And I’m not getting any traction on any of my socials — AuthorJJRose on Twitter (I refuse to call it X), Instagram, and Threads. My views on this site are also kind of low.

If there’s one bright side, it’s that my email opens (for people who get my posts emailed to them via subscription) have gone up a bit.

But still, as a writer, these low stats don’t make me feel very good, and when I don’t feel good, I don’t write. I mean, there’s lots going on in my life as it is — the return to office, my search for a new job, issues at my current job, general marketing work that takes up writing time, working on my sci-fi novel (under a different name), and I also have another short-story collection I’m trying to put out by November (which may or may not happen). There’s a lot that gets in the way of writing erotica. Anything you as a reader can do to alleviate pressures is greatly appreciated, and leaving a review (or a rating) is a huge help.

Just saying.

  1. We really do live in a consumer society don’t we? People seem to want to consume info but not give feedback on what they take in.

As a blogger myself, I see the same situation – little to no interaction. It is always a pleasure to see some form of feedback even if it is just one short line.

I suppose that if the reader hasn’t had their attention grabbed in the opening few paragraphs, it is a case of ‘X’ (not Twitter! Lol) or the ‘back’ button all the way.

Perhaps that’s just the way it is for us Wordsmiths and as Wordsmiths, it is only us that take the time to read and comment.
