One year ago today, I released Lessons as an audiobook. It was pretty well-received, and part of that is because of the absolutely dynamite narration by Rylee Forrester.
Lessons was the first book I chose to release in audio form because it’s one of my favorites — always has been, and still is. The story of a princess with an attitude problem and the teacher whose job it is to correct it hits spankos on many levels (no pun intended). It has echoes of teacher/student in its naughty-princess self, but it’s not just about a girl who needs a spanking. It’s about a young woman who underwent a terrible tragedy and is reacting the only way she knows how, who wants to do better but doesn’t have the knowledge to make it happen. And, of course, there’s a villain — actually, two of them, and only one is the mustache-twirly kind. It’s a story about how spanking can heal you if you’re broken, improve you if you want to make things better, and yes, how it can really hurt one’s backside if one is naughty.
If you haven’t read Lessons yet, I highly recommend it. And if you love audiobooks, I even more highly recommend it. Even if you’ve already read it in text form, experiencing it as an audiobook is something completely different. I remember when I was listening to the files before publication, and even though I wrote the book, edited it, and read it at least ten times, I still found myself lost in the story — especially around chapter 13 or 14. Just saying.
I do hope to put out more audiobooks, but unfortunately it can be very difficult to get a good narrator on ACX who also doesn’t completely flake out on you. In the meantime, though, Lessons is available, and I do hope you’ll check it out. (And, if you do, I would love to hear what you think in the form of a review on Amazon, Goodreads, or Audible.)
