When I’m on Fetlife, sometimes I check the “Explore” tab (formerly known as K&P). A lot of the highly-rated text posts in the first few pages say things such as “like if you [insert sex act here]”. That’s the entire title, and sometimes there’s a sentence or two expanding upon it, but that’s it.
What exactly do these posts accomplish? I mean, who’s going to say no to most of this stuff? Probably nobody.
I think it’s like-baiting — getting people to like your post, and possibly click on your username, so that you can become more popular. I’ve also seen it used by people who want users to click on their Onlyfans or similar. (Onlyfans is valid sex work, yes, but it’s still annoying to view a profile that exists only to get people to look at it.)
When writing this post, I went to “Explore” and here is the top item — text, pic, or video:

That’s it. That’s the entire post.
I clicked through to efezia’s profile, and she has over 200,000 followers. There’s nothing on her profile that suggests anything except someone who’s interested in sex. Like, a lot. But what is the point of this post? What does it accomplish?
Then there’s this:

Again, that’s the whole post. blondie_lillie says she’s “just turned 18” and is “starting college”. She also has an Onlyfans. On Fetlife she has over 70,000 followers. Now, sure, her post is hot, and she might actually like what she says, but more likely she’s like-baiting to get people to click on her page and hopefully subscribe to her Onlyfans.
Look, I get it: Fetlife is a place where there’s a lot of horny people who might become customers of one’s Onlyfans. And having an Onlyfans is difficult work; you have to keep it updated, put in the time, answer messages, market yourself… sex work is work, not just sex. But if you’re going to post something, at least put some effort into it. That’s not a journal entry; that’s a status update. A journal entry might be a recap of an entire scene, or a list of things you like about adding butt stuff to sex.
This post, for example; this post is something you can like (there’s a button) that’s filled with actual content, instead of just a status update that’s been misfiled. If I have a status update, I’ll put it on Twitter… and Threads… and possibly Instagram… jeez, this really is a lot of work.
Oh, and for the record: yes, I will put a finger in your ass while we’re fucking, as long as you consent first.
All the more illustration why we’re such enthusiastic readers/subscribers/fans/etc. Where others may gripe at an avalanche of marketing permeating porn or social media, this was both constructive and insightful commentary, remaining respectful and even leaving readers with fun imagery of “yes, I will put a finger in your ass while we’re fucking”
